lap desk
A large number of people often work on their laptops while sitting on a couch or a bed, which can get uncomfortable if used for a long period of time. The lap desk provides extra height and a sturdier surface while protecting one’s body from the heat produced by the device. It can also be used while studying, writing, eating etc.
It was created by deconstructing the Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames, however only wood was used for this project. By applying the techniques used to make bent plywood chairs, the lap desk was made by bending wood around a jig using a vacuum bag. The jig was made by making a series of identical ribs using a router.
I used bending ply and wood veneers for the planar form and solid wood laminations of white oak for the legs. The lap desk is made by using only material that is absolutely essential for the design.
